چکیده

Background The family Brassicaceae comprises several important crops cultivated in Brazil, including broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage. One of the main diseases that affects all cruciferous plants is black rot, caused by the bacterium Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris (Xcc). This bacterium causes serious damage to the plant, leading to severe yield losses. The disease control is extremely difficult since the seeds are the main source of bacterial dissemination. The aim of this work was to identify proteins from Brassica oleracea during early infection by Xcc, in an attempt to identify proteins related to resistance.

Differential accumulation of Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris proteins during the interaction with the host plant: Contributions of an in vivo system.

Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris (Xcc) is the causal agent of black rot, a highly destructive disease that affects all brassicas. This work aimed to study the interaction Xcc-Brassica oleracea using an in vivo system in an attempt to identify proteins involved in pathogenicity. We used label-free shotgun 2D-nanoUPLC/MSE to analyze Xcc proteins in three conditions: in the interaction with s...

Whole-Genome Re-Alignment Facilitates Development of Specific Molecular Markers for Races 1 and 4 of Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris, the Cause of Black Rot Disease in Brassica oleracea

Black rot, caused by Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris (Xcc), is a seed borne disease of Brassicaceae. Eleven pathogenic races have been identified based on the phenotype interaction pattern of differential brassica cultivars inoculated with different strains. Race 1 and 4 are the two most frequent races found in Brassica oleracea crops. In this study, a PCR molecular diagnostic tool was de...

Discrimination of Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris races among strains from northwestern Spain by Brassica spp. genotypes and rep-PCR

Black rot, caused by Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris (Xcc), is a severe seedborne disease of Brassica crops around the world. Nine races are recognized, being races 1 and 4 the most aggressive and widespread. The identification of Xcc races affecting Brassica crops in a target area is necessary to establish the adequate control measures and breeding strategies. The objectives of this stud...

Identification of genes associated with black rot resistance in cabbage through suppression subtractive hybridization

The suppression subtractive hybridization was employed to elucidate the resistance mechanism in Brassica oleracea var. capitata upon infection with Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris. A cDNA library was constructed enriched in differentially expressed transcripts in the resistant cultivar Pusa mukta. A total of 150 unigenes were classified into five functional categories. The present study i...
